About us

We are an honest company with a sincere mission. We, Lars and Prarthana, started Dzukou with a vision to minimize plastic usage in our daily lives. With our landfills and oceans rapidly getting contaminated with plastics, there is an urgent need to switch to cleaner eco-materials. Besides the environmental benefits, well designed products with eco-materials give a way better product experience than plastic products. At Dzukou, we want to give you that natural and organic experience.

The name Dzukou is derived from the beautiful Dzukou Valley in North-East India. Dzukou is a high altitude valley in the Himalayan state of Nagaland. When a group of Naga People were looking for a suitable place to inhabit, a young scout was sent. He found the valley, but it was too cold, uninhabitable and nothing edible grew. To this day, the stunning Dzukou valley, home to the rare Dzukou lilies, remains far from civilization and mostly untouched.

Embracing éco-materials

We believe that the way to reduce plastic pollution is to use less plastics. Imagine a situation in which a tub is overflowing with water. Our first reaction would be to close the tap rather than to collect the spilled water. It is the same analogy that makes us believe that the ideal solution for the plastic problem is to reduce its consumption and embrace eco-materials.

The team

We are a team of energetic, vibrant and passionate people. We had an amazing journey reaching here where we are today. It all started when we constantly read about how climate change has been irreversibly changing our lives and oceans and lands will never be the same again. Thank goodness we were either friends or bumped onto each other. Over conversations, we discovered that we all wanted to do something for the planet. That’s when we decided to start a company that will design and manufacture products to reduce plastic pollution and promote the use of eco-materials in our daily consumption. The plastics that people consume in packaging, stationery, disposable cutlery, mugs, desktop organizers, decorative objects, etc. will ultimately take hundreds of years to reach end of life. We wouldn’t exist till then but our ecological footprint will. Surprising, how our smallest consumables will actually be our trace. It is with this exact idea that Dzukou wants to make your trail eco-friendly. We want to make sure that the products you use only give you amazing experiences and not indelible traces. After all, the objects we use everyday deserve to feel natural and harmless.

Creating Awareness

We share the social responsibility to create awareness about plastic pollution in Emerging countries. Over packaging with plastics, preference for cheap plastic goods, burning of plastic waste in the open are some of the common practices in such countries. With our collaboration with Akshar Foundation, we hope to educate the youth in India about the hazards of plastic pollution and the possibilities with local eco-materials.

About Akshar

The Akshar foundation is a non-profit organization that works with Government schools in India to teach underprivileged students skills they need to build productive lives for themselves. Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s Nai Talim education philosophy, Akshar’s curriculum balances vocational training with academics. Students pay their “school fees” in the form of plastic waste from their homes and participate in a Recycling Center while learning environmental science. Akshar teaches children to take responsibility for their surroundings, to beautify their community and to address its environmental needs.
